Merit Energy Company

Dallas Texas

When Merit Energy Company of Dallas, Texas was looking for a consulting firm to guide them through the myriad of State of Michigan regulations and implement Merit Energy’s environmentally responsible business plan, they selected Gosling Czubak. What began as groundwater sampling for a couple of historical spill sites in the Norwich Field, ultimately expanded with Merit’s acquisition of Shell Exploration and Production Michigan Basin assets, including over 60 historical spill sites. Gosling Czubak not only designed and implemented efficient cleanup of soil and groundwater contamination, but also assisted Merit Energy with over 40 air permits for various emissions and activities and prepared dozens of spill prevention plans for EPA compliance.

With Merit Energy’s “responsible neighbor” philosophy and aggressive cleanup goals in mind, our strategy consisted of the design and construction of over 25 remediation systems that could be moved from one site to the next site with an average cleanup time within three years of operation. Additional aspects of our strategic plan included detailed investigations to minimize “surprises” during remedial action and swift response to new or potential spills.  Gosling Czubak’s broad range of in house expertise to  complement our environmental services included surveying and industrial wastewater engineering which was instrumental in our successful partnership.

By minimizing cleanup time, Merit Energy saved thousands of dollars in prolonged monitoring costs and reduced cleanup liability posed by lingering historical contamination.  When it was time to sell the assets, Merit Energy, using Gosling Czubak, had amassed hundreds of site and spill closures and earned a reputation with State of Michigan regulators as a model of self-implemented environmental compliance.
