LID Storm Sewer System

Grayling, MI

The City of Grayling encompasses approximately two square miles and a substantial portion of the City’s impervious land surface drains to the AuSable River during every rain. Using maps made from aerial photography, Gosling Czubak determined the appropriate Low Impact Development (LID) stormwater system improvements, including diversion of existing storm sewers to retention basins, some end-of-pipe treatment systems, and LID systems such as rain gardens, vegetative swales, rain barrels, and pervious pavement.  The improvements reduced 80% the total suspended solids deposited into the Au Sable River.

This project was recognized with the Award for Exemplary Efforts by the Natural Rural Water Association.
